A carboy, historically known in France as a dame-jeanne, is a large spherical or bulbous glass vessel traditionally used to store, transport, and age wine, cider, or spirits during the 19th century.

These vessels were hand-blown using thick glass, resulting in subtle variations in wall thickness, visible air bubbles, and pontil marks on the base. Higher-end decorative examples were hand-cut or etched with surface motifs.
