Nineteenth-century Venetian and Murano scent bottles are characterised by intricate glassmaking techniques, such as aventurine inclusions, millefiori, or layered coloured glass, often fitted with metal caps.

These bottles were handcrafted using specialized soda-lime glass formulations, frequently incorporating metal foils like gold or silver leaf, and finished with metalwork mounts of brass, white metal, or silver.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit pontil scars on the base, minor irregularities consistent with hand-blowing, period-appropriate metal mounts, and natural age-related wear to the glass and fittings.

They make excellent display pieces on vanity trays, dressing table surfaces, or within glass-fronted cabinets where light can catch the iridescent and metallic qualities of the glass.

Preserve antique glass by dusting gently with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners, and keeping them out of direct, prolonged sunlight to protect any metallic foils and delicate surfaces.
