Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early 20th-century octagonal wall lanterns are exterior lighting fixtures characterised by eight-sided geometric frames, clear glass glazing, and decorative metal mountings. Influenced by Edwardian and Neo-Georgian architectural trends, these lanterns were designed to illuminate entryways and exterior walls of period properties.

These lanterns were typically constructed using wrought or cast iron for the structural frame and mounting brackets, paired with glass panes. Brass components, such as top finials and interior lamp fittings, were frequently incorporated for visual contrast and weather resistance.

Authentic period lanterns display evidence of traditional metalcraft, including riveted joints, hand-forged scrollwork brackets, and slight variations in glass thickness. Natural surface patination, older wiring access points, and solid brass fittings also distinguish genuine antiques from modern reproductions.

A pair of antique wall lanterns can be installed flanking a main entrance or along a courtyard wall to establish an architectural focal point. They can also be adapted for interior placement in hallways, staircases, or foyers to introduce historic character.

Iron frames should be cleaned using a soft brush and dry cloth to remove dust, followed by an application of neutral microcrystalline wax to protect against moisture and oxidisation. Glass panels should be wiped with a non-abrasive cleaner, taking care not to disrupt frame seals.
