Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

French decorative lighting from the 19th and early 20th centuries frequently drew inspiration from classical antiquity, incorporating urn forms, natural marble bodies, and cast gilt metal or ormolu mounts to reflect neoclassical tastes.

Authentic period lamps typically feature turned or carved natural stone bodies such as marble or alabaster, paired with cast bronze, brass, or gilt metal mounts, and are frequently fitted with silk or fabric shades.

Authentication involves examining the weight and construction of the stone body, checking for period-appropriate casting techniques and hand-chased details on the metal components, and inspecting the wiring and socket types for age-related wear.

An antique lamp serves as a sophisticated focal point on a sideboard, console table, or bedside cabinet, contrasting effectively against minimalist modern furniture or complementing classic transitional schemes.

Marble should be wiped gently with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth without acidic cleaners, while gilt metal components require careful dusting to avoid wearing away the delicate metallic finish.
