18th Century Oak Bible Box

Description

A good example of a large english oak bible box dating from the 18th Century. It is a lovely plain design with naive carved initials 'TH' and date '1775' on the front. It has a flat top with chip edge borders. It has a blacksmith made latch and lock plate and the lid opens on its original strap hinges.

It is in good condition and has developed a lovely rich patina. There are some signs of age and use, some old marks, knocks and minor shrinkage splits but nothing detrimental and overall it displays well.
