FAQs

A boule descalier is a decorative architectural ornament, typically a glass or crystal sphere, placed at the top of a staircase newel post.

Traditional construction typically combines hand-cut lead crystal or pressed glass mounted on a turned brass, bronze, or wooden base.

Authentic period pieces often feature heavy lead content, hand-cut facets with slight irregularities, polished pontil marks on the base, and age-related patination on the metal fittings.

These decorative objects can be displayed on a mantelpiece, used as a unique paperweight on an office desk, or integrated back into traditional architectural joinery.

Clean gently with a soft cloth and lukewarm soapy water, avoiding harsh chemicals or abrasives that can damage the polished glass surface and the aged metal mount.
