Gilt and Gesso has dated this piece to the 17th Century.

The coffer is raised upon simple plank sides and shows an all over elegant and timeworn patination, whilst sitting well and retaining excellent structural integrity.
A fine quality English vernacular trunk or storage chest of versatile use for a day or bedroom, kitchen or bathroom, equally a charming hall bench for shoes etc.., and sitting on.

A very fine example of English country furniture in mostly very good, period condition, please note the top has a natural grain split, great expression which at some point has had a restoration to fill the split, this is a restoration typical of the period and some may prefer this infill/fillet to be removed and show the true character and condition of the top, there is a little movement of the repair area but still structurally good and comfortably withstand body weight sitting upon it.

A charming English antique coffer with great character and colour, a modest size storage chest or trunk with versatile day or bedroom use that can enhance a classic or contemporary space, an interior design, wholesome piece of considerable decorative and practical appeal.
