19th century
Sold 28 January 2026 · Robert Bush Antiques
This “Antique Irish Silver Spoon 'N' Dublin 1806 17cm” found a buyer.

It was listed by Robert Bush Antiques. Sold pieces stay on Sellingantiques as a record of what has passed through, and the next one is rarely far away.

Description

Antique Irish silver spoon hallmarked for Dublin 1806.

This is an unusual spoon, 17cm long, larger than a teaspoon, smaller than a dessert spoon and with the letter 'N' on the handle.

Underneath the N there is what looks like an animal's face, difficult to see as it's worn, and below the face there is evidence there was once something else there, now missing. I hope you can see a small patch in the pictures.

It weighs 260 grams and is in good condition.

Unusual piece of Irish history, almost 220 years old.

Georgian Irish silver encompasses items produced in Ireland during the reign of King George III, typically characterised by distinct Dublin assay office hallmarks and traditional silversmithing techniques.

Items from this era are generally crafted from sterling silver, adhering to the legal standard of 925 parts per thousand, often identified by specific makers marks and town marks.

Authentic pieces usually feature a combination of stamps including a makers mark, a purity mark such as the harp crowned or lion passant, a date letter indicating the year of assay, and a sovereigns head duty mark.

Antique silver items are frequently displayed within glass cabinets, used on dining tables for special occasions, or integrated into tabletop vignettes alongside ceramics and glassware.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth to protect the patina, avoiding harsh chemical dips that can damage historical surfaces.
