Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian table lamp from 1880 combines a frosted white glass globe shade, a central brass column, and a ceramic base decorated with hand-painted blue, yellow, green, and brown sea creatures, birds, scrolls, and leaves on a white ground. The brass base is supported by four ornate feet and the column includes cast brass elements, fluted details, and mouldings, all wired for electricity following an earlier conversion from an oil lamp. It measures 88 cm high, 20 cm wide, and 20 cm deep. Suitable for use in a living room, study, or hallway, this piece sits well on a sideboard, side table, or console, providing functional lighting while adding period character to traditional or eclectic interiors. The electrical system has been tested and remains in working order for everyday use.

FAQs

Victorian ceramic and brass oil lamps feature decorative ceramic bodies paired with cast brass mounts, columns, and burners, reflecting nineteenth-century tastes in ornamental lighting.

These lighting pieces typically combine glazed ceramic or faience reservoirs, cast brass fittings and pedestals, and etched or frosted blown glass shades.

Authentic examples often show evidence of conversion from paraffin burners to electricity, alongside hand-painted ceramic detailing, stamped maker marks on metal fittings, and aged patina on the brass.

Position the lamp on a side table, console, or desk to add historical context, pairing it with dark wood furniture, neutral tones, or traditional soft furnishings.

Clean the ceramic body using a dry microfibre cloth, avoid abrasive cleaners on the brass surfaces, and regularly inspect electrical components for safety.
