Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, porcelain table lamps were frequently created by adapting ceramic urns and vases, adding ornate cast metal mounts known as ormolu or gilt bronze. These pieces often featured vivid monochrome or hand-painted glazes inspired by French Sevres porcelain production.

These lamps generally feature a glazed ceramic or porcelain body set into cast brass, bronze, or chiseled gilt bronze bases and collars. Internal electrical wiring was typically retrofitted in the late 19th or early 20th century as electric lighting replaced oil burners.

Authentic examples display evidence of natural age on the metallic components, such as light patination or tarnish on the gilt bronze mounts. Examining the ceramic undersides or interior rims often reveals mould marks, potters stamps, or conversion signs from earlier oil lamp assemblies.

Position the lamp on a neutral sideboard or dark wood console table to allow the vivid turquoise glaze to serve as a focal accent. Pair it with a plain silk or linen drum shade to balance the detailed gilt metalwork.

Clean the porcelain section using a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh liquid cleaners that might strip original glazes or gilding. Metal mounts should be dusted gently with a soft brush rather than abrasive polishes, which can erode original surface gilding.
