Mid-nineteenth century Victorian glassware is characterised by a transition from heavily cut crystal to simpler, heavier lead glass forms, often featuring baluster stems and plain bowls influenced by industrial production methods.

These items were typically crafted from lead crystal or flint glass, shaped using free-blowing, mould-blowing, and hand-finishing techniques by skilled artisans.

Authentic pieces often exhibit characteristic pontil marks on the base, minor surface imperfections such as tiny air bubbles, and a weight and refractive index typical of historical lead glass.

Vintage glassware adds tactile interest and historical contrast when displayed in open cabinets, utilised on bar carts, or incorporated into table settings as accent pieces.

Antique glass should always be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and abrasive materials to prevent scratching and thermal shock.
