Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Antique silver should be washed gently in warm water with a mild, phosphate-free soap and dried with a soft cotton cloth, avoiding abrasive polishes that can wear away thin silver plating or crisp hand-engraved details.

Integrating period silver into modern spaces works best by creating contrast, such as placing reflective metallic surfaces against matte stone or linen textures on sideboards or open shelving.

Authenticity is verified through struck hallmarks, which generally include a makers mark, a standard mark (such as a lion passant for British sterling), a town assay office mark, and a date letter corresponding to the specific year of testing.

These pieces were typically crafted from sterling silver (.925 standard), often shaped through techniques such as raising from a flat sheet, spinning, or casting, and finished with hand-chiselled chasing, repousse, or engraving.

Victorian silver items are characterised by heavy ornamentation, drawing inspiration from historical revival styles including Rococo, Gothic, and Renaissance motifs, often produced following the establishment of strict hallmarking standards in Britain.
