Antique Moore Brothers Pâte-sur-pâte Vase – Henry Saunders, C.1880

19th century
Description

An attractive and unusual moon flask vase by Moore Brothers. This finely crafted piece features a deep olive green ground, beautifully contrasted with a white slip depiction of a playful putto in flowing drapery—an elegant nod to neoclassical whimsy.

The vase stands on four distinctive flaring feet with applied gilt and black stylised decoration throughout. Marked to the base for T. Goode & Co., London, one of the leading luxury retailers of the Victorian era.

Signed with the monogram "HS" for Henry Saunders, a known pupil of Louis Solon at Minton, who continued his career at Moore Brothers from 1877 until the early 1890s.

Dimensions: Height 6 3/8 inches (16.2 cm), Width 5 1/2 inches (14 cm), Depth 2 3/8 inches (6 cm)

Condition: No chips, cracks or restoration. Some gilt wear and expected age-related crazing.

A superb example of Victorian pâte-sur-pâte decoration and an excellent addition to any quality porcelain collection.
