Georgian Oak Coffor Bach

A Georgian oak coffor bach of typical form with a moulded edge lid and two, ogee-arched, fielded panels above a drawer. The colour varies from pale brown to reddish black, with good patina. West Wales, probably Carmarthenshire, circa 1770 - 1800.
 
Traditionally associated with marriage, these miniature versions of larger coffers would have been used to store a woman`s most precious, small possessions and were often passed down through the female line in Welsh families.
