Exquisite Antique Arts & Crafts Chalcedony Necklace in Silver C.1900 - This Beautiful Necklace Is Attributed to Edith Stewart

1900 - 1920
Description

A rare and truly elegant antique Arts & Crafts necklace, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900, attributed to the distinguished designer Edith Stewart. This fine example of period jewellery showcases exceptional craftsmanship and timeless design.

The necklace features four enchanting lilac-blue chalcedony cabochons, each suspended from delicate silver chains. These serene gemstones are framed in rope-effect silver settings, with the principal stone beautifully accented by a classic laurel surround – a motif often associated with the Arts & Crafts movement.

This necklace sits gracefully on the neck and is particularly flattering when worn. Its refined form and subtle movement reflect the aesthetic ideals of the period: natural beauty, fine handwork, and honest materials.

Gemstone Details:

2 x round cabochons – 10.5mm diameter

1 x oval cabochon – 10.5mm x 9mm

1 x smaller oval cabochon – 7.5mm x 6mm

Measurements:

Total necklace length: 39cm (15½")

Pendant drop: 6cm (2½")

Total weight: 11 grams

The necklace is in exceptional original condition, a rare survivor of its type, and is presented in the fitted box shown. Unmarked but tested as silver. In our expert opinion, this necklace was designed by Edith Stewart, a known figure within the Arts & Crafts movement.

A highly collectable and wearable antique jewel, ideal for the discerning collector or a lover of fine period jewellery.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
