Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A sautoir is an elongated necklace, typically terminating in a tassel or pendant, which gained significant popularity during the Arts and Crafts movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Designers emphasised hand-craftsmanship, visible joinery, and natural motifs as a reaction against industrial mass production.

Jewellery from this period commonly features hand-hammered sterling silver, wirework scrolls, and cabochon-cut semi-precious gemstones such as rose quartz, rock crystal, moonstone, and amethyst. Settings often showcase wire cages or bezel mounts rather than high-carat gold and faceted diamonds.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand fabrication, such as slight hammer marks, asymmetrical wirework, and custom bezel settings tailored to individual cabochons. Maker marks from recognised craftsmen alongside British silver hallmarks also confirm authenticity.

A long sautoir can be worn loosely over high-neck knitwear or minimalist dresses to highlight the vertical line and pendant tassel. Alternatively, longer chains can be looped around the neck twice to create a layered effect.

Clean the metal using a soft, non-abrasive polishing cloth to retain natural patina without removing delicate detail. Avoid submerging porous or mounted stones like quartz and rock crystal in harsh chemical cleaners or ultrasonic baths.
