Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Colza lights were popular ceiling fixtures during the late Georgian and Regency periods, designed to burn oil derived from rapeseed (colza). They featured elevated central reservoirs that allowed gravity to feed fuel to side burners, producing a cleaner and brighter illumination than standard candles or earlier oil lamps.

Regency colza light fittings were typically constructed using cast bronze with mercurial gilding (ormolu) or dark patinated finishes. The globes and shades were crafted from acid-etched or cut frosted glass to diffuse the intense flame generated by the oil burners.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces display fire gilding with gentle surface wear along elevated details and natural oxidation in recessed casting. Original colza lights frequently exhibit evidence of historical conversion to electricity, such as small entry holes or modified internal fuel pipes.

Position the fixture as a central focal point above a dining table, within a lofty hallway, or over a formal sitting room arrangement. The contrast between dark patinated bronze and rich gilding complements both traditional architectural moulding and muted modern palettes.

Dust the metallic surfaces regularly with a soft, dry camel-hair brush to prevent dirt settling into intricate relief work. Avoid water, liquid chemical polishes, or abrasive cloths, as these will erode original fire-gilt finishes and patination.
