Glove boxes were popular accessory containers during the nineteenth century, designed to store fine leather gloves on dressing tables. French glassmakers frequently produced these pieces using coloured or opal glass with delicate enamelled decorations.

These items typically combine mould-blown or pressed coloured glass with brass or gilt-metal mounts and hinges. The surface decoration often features hand-applied enamel or gilt detailing.

Authentic pieces exhibit characteristics such as pontil marks on the base, hand-painted floral motifs rather than transfers, and patination on the metal mounts consistent with age.

This type of decorative object suits placement on a dressing table, mantlepiece, or open shelving as an accent piece, introducing colour and historical texture to a room.

Clean the glass using a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical solvents that can damage the delicate hand-painted enamel or metal mounts. Keep away from direct sunlight to preserve the colour.
