Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian era spans the reigns of the four British monarchs named George from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, elegant restraint, and high craftsmanship influenced by Palladianism and later neoclassicism.

Silver items from this period were typically crafted from sterling silver (0.925 fineness), often hand-beaten or cast, and marked with official hallmarks indicating the assay office, makers mark, and date.

Authentic pieces bear genuine struck hallmarks, including a makers mark, a lion passant indicating sterling standard, a leopards head for London or another town mark, and a date letter corresponding to the active working year of the silversmith.

This piece can be displayed within a glass-fronted cabinet, mounted in a shadow box frame, or used thoughtfully in a curated tablescape to introduce historical texture and metallic sheen to contemporary spaces.

Preserve silver by storing it in a tarnish-resistant cloth in a low-humidity environment, washing it gently with warm water and mild soap when necessary, and minimising abrasive polishing to protect the integrity of the hallmarks.
