Art Deco design emerged in the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by geometric symmetry, clean lines, and intricate surface patterns such as engine-turning.

These pieces were typically crafted from solid sterling silver mounted over a wooden or velvet-backed support, utilising mechanical engraving techniques like engine-turning to create textured borders.

Authenticity is verified through clear hallmarks stamped on the silver, indicating the makers mark, assay office, purity standard, and date letter corresponding to the period.

Pairing metallic antiques with modern minimalist furniture creates a sophisticated contrast, allowing the historical craftsmanship to stand out on a desk or mantelpiece.

Maintenance requires gentle cleaning with a specialised non-abrasive silver cloth to remove tarnish while preserving the original surface details and hallmarks.
