Antique English Georgian linen press, constructed from mahogany, circa 1800, with an internal hanging rail and two drawers. Offered for sale as a restoration project.

Description:

Antique English Georgian linen press, constructed from mahogany, circa 1800, with an internal hanging rail and two drawers. Offered for sale as a restoration project. The Georgian linen press incorporates a protruding moulded Greek dentil cornice, above two decorative figured mahogany panel doors. The left-hand door retains its original brass sliding latches, while the right-hand door retains its original working lever lock (with working key). The top section opens to reveal a spacious interior, including a brass hanging rail. The internal hanging area offers generous hanging space for tall items, such as dresses or coats, as hanging space continues into the base of the linen press (the top two drawers of the base section is a dummy drawer and does not open. The base section comprises two working drawers, which are constructed with oak drawer lining and retain the original brass lever locks and decorated with cock-beaded detail. There is no key for the drawers. The turned drawer knobs are old replacements. The linen press sits on its original plinth base and retains its original pine backboards. The linen press dismantles into four sections allowing easy access up the staircase and into the bedroom. This Georgian wardrobe displays a rich deep mahogany colour.

Condition Report:

Offered for sale as a restoration project. Shrinkage to the internal door panels, specifically the right-hand door. Nominal old use marks to the front, leading edges, sides, drawer edges etc. Please see photos for condition details. The interior has been fitted with a brass hanging rail (there are no internal trays). The two doors lock, using the original brass working lever lock (with working key). The top drawer is a fixed dummy drawer and does not open (it is used for hanging depth). The drawers retain their original brass lever locks – there is no key for the drawers. The drawers are hand-dovetailed and oak lined. The drawer knobs are old replacements. The Georgian linen press is raised on its original plinth base and retains its original backboards.
