Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An ormolu candelabra is a decorative branched candle holder crafted from gilt bronze, a technique popularised in 18th and 19th-century France. The term ormolu refers to the application of finely ground gold amalgam to a bronze object, resulting in a durable gilded surface.

These pieces typically combine chased bronze bases cast using the lost-wax method with mercury gilding for a radiant gold finish. High-end examples frequently feature structural elements or bases carved from ornamental stone, such as rouge marble or porphyry.

Genuine antique ormolu exhibits heavy visual weight, precise hand-chasing details, and threaded bolt assembly beneath the base rather than modern screws. Authentic mercury gilding shows subtle wear and oxidisation in crevices rather than uniform modern electroplated finishes.

Position the piece centrally on a contemporary sideboard, dining table, or fireplace mantel to create a striking focal point. Pairing dark, minimalist surfaces with rich gilded metal and marble offers a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Clean ormolu gently using a soft, dry brush or a lint-free cloth to clear dust without stripping the gilding. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, polish, or abrasive agents, and wipe marble surfaces with a damp cloth dried immediately to prevent staining.
