Caddy spoons emerged in the mid-18th century as tea became an increasingly precious commodity in British households, requiring specialised utensils to measure loose leaves from a caddy into the teapot.

These pieces were predominantly crafted from sterling silver using techniques such as die-stamping, bright-cut hand engraving, and filigree work, often featuring makers marks and town hallmarks stamped into the metal.

Authenticity is verified through clear duty marks, makers initials, lion passant standards, and date letters corresponding to specific assay offices such as Birmingham or London.

Small antique silver pieces can be displayed within glass-fronted cabinets, arranged on serving trays, or integrated into table settings to add historical texture and reflective metallic accents.

Preservation involves storing pieces in tarnish-resistant cloth, minimising exposure to humidity, and cleaning infrequently using non-abrasive silver cloths rather than harsh chemical dips to protect engravings.
