Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian silver cutlery is characterised by elaborate ornamentation, fine hand-engraving, and the frequent integration of organic materials such as mother-of-pearl handles, reflecting the opulence and craftsmanship of the late 19th century.

These sets typically feature sterling silver or silver-plated blades and tines paired with carved mother-of-pearl handles, secured with metal ferrules, and housed in fitted wooden presentation cases lined with velvet or satin.

Authenticity is verified through British hallmarks stamped on the metal components, including the makers mark, standard mark, town mark (such as the crown for Sheffield), and a date letter corresponding to the specific year of production.

Cased flatware can be displayed open on a sideboard or console table to showcase the interior velvet lining and intricate metalwork, serving as a sophisticated conversation piece that bridges historical craft with contemporary dining.

Silver should be cleaned periodically with a non-abrasive polish specifically formulated for precious metals, while mother-of-pearl must be kept away from harsh chemicals, extreme temperatures, and excessive moisture to prevent delamination.
