FAQs

The George III period spans from 1760 to 1820, characterised by a transition from heavier Palladian and early neoclassical designs towards lighter, more refined proportions influenced by cabinetmakers such as Thomas Chippendale, George Hepplewhite, and Thomas Sheraton.

Master cabinetmakers predominantly utilised premium hardwoods like solid mahogany and oak for structural integrity, often incorporating finely figured mahogany veneers, satinwood banding, and brass hardware to enhance the decorative surface.

Authentic pieces typically feature period-correct construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer boxes, secondary timbers like pine or oak in concealed areas, original hand-forged brasses, and natural patination developed over centuries.

Placing a substantial piece like a linen press against a neutral wall allows the rich timber grain to serve as a focal point, contrasting effectively with minimalist modern decor and sophisticated lighting to balance historical weight with clean lines.

Maintain stable relative humidity and protect the timber from direct sunlight to prevent veneer cracking and fading, applying occasional applications of high-grade beeswax to nourish the wood and preserve its natural sheen.
