Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the mid-to-late eighteenth century, Chippendale breakfront bookcases feature a prominent central section that projects forward beyond the side wings. Design elements typically include pediments such as swan-neck or pagoda styles, intricate astragal glazing bars, and high-grade mahogany construction.

These pieces were primarily crafted from solid and veneered Cuban or West Indian mahogany, with secondary woods like oak or pine used for drawer linings and carcass interiors. Glazed doors feature individual glass panes secured with wooden astragal mouldings, while base drawers are joined using hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authentic period pieces exhibit signs of hand craftsmanship, such as uneven hand-sawn timber marks on the back panels, hand-cut dovetails, and cast brass handles with original threaded posts and nuts. The glass often contains natural imperfections, air bubbles, or slight distortion characteristic of historic cylinder glass.

A large breakfront cabinet serves as an architectural anchor along a main wall in a dining room, living area, or home office. Pairing the traditional dark timber with light, neutral wall paint or contemporary artwork creates an intentional contrast between historic furniture and modern aesthetics.

Preserve the finish by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the grain. Maintain a stable indoor environment away from direct sunlight, radiators, or damp conditions to prevent timber movement, veneer lifting, or wood splitting.
