Rummers emerged in Britain during the late 18th century, evolving from heavy continental drinking vessels into popular tavern and domestic glasses used primarily for ale, wine, and punch.

These pieces were typically handblown from lead glass, characterised by a high refractive index, thick walled bowls, short stems, and sturdy footed bases.

Authenticity is indicated by pontil marks on the base, inclusions or tiny air bubbles within the handblown glass, uneven thickness, and natural wear consistent with age.

They can be showcased on open shelving, inside glass-fronted cabinets, or used as functional decorative objects on dining sideboards to add historical texture.

Wash by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding harsh scrubbing or sudden temperature changes, and dry thoroughly with a lint-free cloth.
