Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chamberstick is a small, portable candle holder with a wide tray and a side handle, designed to be carried to bed chambers before gas or electric lighting became common. The wide base caught dripping wax, while the accompanying snuffer allowed the flame to be safely extinguished.

Victorian chambersticks were primarily crafted from solid sterling silver, silver plate, or brass. Premium examples feature hand-chased botanical decoration, cast handles, and turned nozzles formed from solid metal.

Authentic British sterling silver chambersticks feature a full set of hallmarks, including the town mark, lion passant for silver purity, a date letter, and a makers mark. Detachable components, such as the nozzle or extinguisher, usually carry matching partial hallmarks.

A silver chamberstick works as a decorative accent on a bedside table, mantelpiece, or hallway console table. Positioning it alongside leather-bound books or textured ceramics creates a curated, layered display.

Dust regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and clean periodically using a specialised silver polish applied with a cotton sponge. Avoid harsh chemical dips or abrasive scourers, as these can strip aged patina from low-relief details.
