Description

This is a late Georgian mouth-blown storm lamp or hall candlestick dating from the early part of the 19th century, c1800.

The lamp is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 200 years of use. The base of the lamp carries a rough pontil mark.

The lamp has a wide thistle-shaped bowl measuring 12.2 cm (4.9 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is plain and sits on a domed and folded (upwards) foot that measures 12.8 cm (5.1 inches) in diameter. The lamp is 21.2 cm (8.5 inches) in height.

It weighs 710 g. ( ~ 1 lb. 9 oz.). There are no chips, cracks, or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is some light scratching to the inner surface, probably resulting from cleaning.
