Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. This solid silver Victorian desk accessory commemorates Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. The piece takes the form of a paper knife measuring 21.5 cm high, finished in a bright silver tone with a circular magnifying glass mounted at the top. Details visible in the design include an engraved ruler scale along one edge, a maker's inscription near the handle, and a decorative coronation crown finial. Ideal for everyday tasks in a home office or study, this desk item brings both practical utility and historical character to a desk setup. The silver surface shows light handling marks consistent with its age and use. The magnifying glass provides a clear circular viewing area, while the calibrated edge offers a six-inch measuring scale.

FAQs

During the nineteenth century, desk accessories such as letter openers and page turners were produced to mark significant national events, including Queen Victorias Diamond Jubilee in 1897.

High-grade Victorian desk tools were crafted from sterling silver, mother-of-pearl, tortoiseshell, or ivory, often featuring engraved ruler markings or sculptural finials.

Authentic British silver items from this era carry a complete sequence of hallmarks, including the purity mark, assay office stamp, date letter, and makers mark.

Position the item across a leather desk blotter, next to a notebook, or within a shallow tray on a study desk to add a historical focal point.

Maintain silver items by wiping with a soft cotton cloth and using targeted silver polish to prevent oxidisation without eroding fine engraved detailing.
