Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Clean silver plate using a soft cloth and non-abrasive silver cream to prevent stripping the thin layer of silver. Accumulated candle wax should be softened with warm water rather than scraped off with metal tools to avoid scratching the surface.

Large silver candelabra function as symmetrical focal points when placed at either end of a sideboard, console table, or long dining table. Mixing silver items with modern minimalist decor creates contrast while highlighting classical metalwork.

Authentic pieces carry makers marks, date letters, or structural stamps on the base or rim, such as the Elkington & Co shield or crowned marks. Examination of the seams, weight, and wear patterns where the underlying base metal may show through helps verify age.

These items were typically constructed from base metals such as nickel silver or copper, which were electroplated with a layer of pure silver. The branches and decorative elements were cast separately, assembled with internal threaded rods, and hand-finished with chased or scroll details.

During the mid-nineteenth century, silver-plating techniques advanced rapidly following Elkingtons patent for electroplating in 1840. Candelabra from this era reflected Victorian dining customs, where large, multi-arm silver pieces were used to illuminate formal evening gatherings prior to widespread gas and electric lighting.
