We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian cutlery canteen on stand is a specialized piece of English dining furniture produced during the early 20th century, designed to hold and organize a comprehensive set of flatware. It typically features a fitted wooden chest mounted atop a dedicated four-legged base or table.

These pieces were typically crafted from solid woods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring brass flush handles and lock plates. The interior compartments are traditionally lined with felt or velvet to protect silver plate or sterling silver cutlery from scratching and tarnish.

Authentic pieces usually feature an inset brass or printed makers mark reading Mappin & Webb, often accompanied by London address details. Authentic construction exhibits fine dovetail joinery, flush campaign-style brass fittings, and fitted drawers molded precisely to match flatware silhouettes.

A canteen on stand functions as an accent table in a formal dining room, hallway, or living space. Positioned in an empty corner or against a narrow wall space, it provides functional storage while serving as a focal point.

The exterior oak frame should be dusted regularly with a soft cloth and conditioned with natural beeswax polish. The interior velvet lining should be kept dry and clean using a soft brush, while silver-plated items require occasional polishing with specialized silver cleaner to prevent excessive oxidisation.
