The Art Deco movement emerged in France during the 1910s and flourished internationally throughout the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by sleek geometric lines, stylised motifs, and modern industrial materials applied to everyday objects.

Makers predominantly utilised sterling silver, often working through processes like stamping, casting, and hand-engraving to achieve precise geometric patterns and polished finishes.

Authentic pieces bear official British hallmarks stamped into the metal, which typically include a makers mark, a standard mark for sterling silver, a city assay office mark (such as the anchor for Birmingham), and a date letter.

These metallic accents can be styled on a dining table or sideboard to introduce reflective textures, blending seamlessly into minimalist or eclectic tablescapes as functional conversation pieces.

Silver should be cleaned periodically with a specialist non-abrasive silver polish and a soft cloth, then stored in a dry, tarnish-resistant environment away from direct sunlight.
