Small Georgian Mahogany Breakfront Library Bookcase
£12,800 $17,570 €14,706
A Superb Quality George III Period Mahogany Breakfront Library Bookcase, Of Unusual Small Proportions, Having Four Elegant Astragal Glazed Doors To Top Enclosing Adjustable Shelves, Over Four Further Panelled Cupboard Doors Below Enclosing Further Adjustable Shelves To Centre And Folio Divisions To Each End, Raised On Original Plinth Base.
Breakfront Bookcases are of course one of the grandest and most instantly recognisable items of 18th and 19th century English furniture. Just about every home had one of some kind and they therefore come in a huge variety of shapes, sizes, timbers and qualities. One of the reasons for their popularity is of course they are the most functional pieces of furniture around, allowing a massive amount of storage and display spaces to be used in all of the space which they take up.
This is actually a smaller than normal example, still large enough to be very much functional and practical, but not so overpoweringly large that it needs a huge space in t...he home with a high ceiling all to itself like many. Indeed the dimensions are very practical indeed even for a typical 21st century home with lower ceilings as well as for older period type properties.
The exceptional quality of its construction means that it has remained in excellent condition and very much fit for original purpose. The mahogany timbers contained within are dense and rich and even after being taken apart for transport the bookcase fits back together beautifully and securely every single time, not always the case with some of these breakfront bookcases.
As with all items which we offer for sale it has been inspected and attended to in our workshops by our specialist antique furniture restorers and received a natural wax polish prior to being placed on sale, ensuring that it is in its best possible condition and ready for immediate placement within the home or office after purchase.
