A Victorian silver scent bottle is a small, portable container crafted from sterling silver during the 19th century, used to hold liquid perfumes or smelling salts.

These pieces were typically forged from solid sterling silver, often featuring inner glass stoppers, gilt interiors, and sometimes decorative elements like cut glass or enamel.

Authenticity is determined by examining hallmarks stamped on the metal, which indicate the assay office, year of manufacture, and the silversmiths maker mark.

Such decorative items add a touch of historical elegance when displayed on a dressing table tray, a vanity counter, or inside a glass-fronted cabinet.

Preservation involves storing pieces away from moisture and using a specialized silver cloth or mild polish sparingly to maintain the natural patina without damaging the hallmarks.
