Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of nineteenth century French Neoclassical cassolette table lamps takes the form of urn-shaped vessels standing on square plinth bases with stepped mouldings. The bodies are constructed from cream veined onyx complemented by gilded bronze mounts, brass lamp holders, and scrolling handles that curve outward from the neck. Further decorative detailing includes beaded bronze collars encircling the shoulders and bases, alongside applied gilt bronze floral wreaths affixed to the front of each urn body. The lamps stand 48 cm high with a 10 cm width and 10 cm depth. These pieces suit placement upon a living room sideboard, a dining room console table, or a bedroom chest of drawers as decorative accent lighting.

FAQs

Originally designed as covered urns or perfume burners during the Neoclassical era, cassolettes were later converted into decorative table lamps featuring classical scroll handles, relief mounts, and pedestal bases.

Authentic examples typically feature carved natural stone, such as onyx, alabaster, or marble, paired with chased gilt bronze or ormolu mounts for handles, collars, and bases.

Look for natural variations and veining in the stone body, hand-chased metal castings with relief detailing, heavy cast bronze or brass mounts, and evidence of historical electrical conversion.

Place a matching pair symmetrically on a sideboard, console table, or bedside cabinets to introduce balanced proportion and classical texture into contemporary or traditional decor schemes.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfiber cloth, avoiding liquid chemicals on porous stone and using non-abrasive methods to protect the underlying metal patina.
