Rare Huge 14+Ins English Georgian Sterling Silver Page Turner C1780 Antique 118g

Description

A rare huge heavy English Georgian antique solid sterling silver page turner. It is hallmarked with the Lion Passant mark, the Georgian head mark and the makers mark of John Lambe, this mark was used around c1780. It would have been use to turn the pages of large books to stop ink getting on the hands and clothes and to prevent tearing of pages, books being very expensive at this time. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits distortions and repairs. It measures approx. 14.5 inches (36.6cm) long by 1.25 inches (3.2cm) wide and weighs an impressive 118 grams. A very well made piece.
