Art Nouveau glassware is characterised by organic motifs, flowing asymmetrical lines, and iridescent or coloured glass finishes inspired by natural forms.

Makers added metallic oxides, such as manganese or gold, to the molten glass batch to achieve rich hues like amethyst, followed by hand-blowing and wheel-engraving.

Authentic pieces often exhibit pontil marks on the base, minor surface imperfections indicative of hand-working, and crisp, hand-cut or wheel-engraved detailing rather than pressed-glass seams.

Display the piece on a neutral surface where natural light can pass through the coloured glass, either as a standalone sculptural object or holding a single delicate stem.

Wash the item gently by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding harsh abrasives or sudden temperature changes to protect the fragile historical material.
