Art Nouveau emerged in the late 19th century, drawing inspiration from natural forms such as plants, flowers, and flowing organic lines, which contrasted sharply with the rigid geometries of previous eras.

Victorian sugar tongs were predominantly crafted from sterling silver or silver-plated base metals, frequently utilising spring-tempered alloys to ensure durability and flexibility at the hinge.

Authentic pieces typically feature official British hallmarks stamped directly into the metal, indicating the assay office, standard of silver, and date letter corresponding to the Victorian period.

Antique silver tableware can be displayed within contemporary settings by incorporating polished pieces into table settings, bar carts, or glass-fronted cabinets to add textural contrast and historical depth.

Antique silver should be cleaned sparingly using a soft microfiber cloth and specialised silver polish, avoiding abrasive materials, and stored in a dry, tarnish-resistant environment.
