Five Assorted Rare Georgian Toddy Lifters C1820

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Exhibit Antiques

Technical Description

A group of five rare examples of Georgian glass Toddy Lifters dating to the early 19th century.

A Toddy Lifter is used to transpose alcohol from a Serving Rummer or Punch Bowl held in the centre of the table into your glass. You place the toddy lifter into the liquid and let the reservoir at the base fill. Place your finger over the small hole at the top, move over the glass, and release, emptying the contents into the glass.

This Toddy Lifter comes from the Michael Wallis Toddy Lifter collection put together over a 45 year period. To our knowledge, it is the largest and most comprehensive collection that exists with almost 80 different examples in size, cutting, knops and other decoration.
