Description:?This is a fine quality small English Queen Anne style wardrobe constructed with burr and figured walnut timbers, comprising two doors, with hanging space and shelves and two drawers below, circa 1935, in excellent original condition. The top of the tallboy comprises fine burr walnut, finished with a moulded edge, below two large doors also constructed with burr walnut, which are decorated with classic arched Queen Anne style double-dome panels, in figured walnut cross-banding and cock-beading. The doors retain the original cast metal decorative handles and the doors open to reveal a telescopic hanging rail on the left-hand side and five fitted shelves on the right-hand side. The left-hand door retains its original metal sliding locking bolt. Below are two functional large drawers, also decorated with burr walnut and the original handles. Interestingly, the handles are stamped “C&A” with a registration number, but we are not sure what this abbreviation refers to. The drawers are constructed with dovetail joints with mahogany drawer linings. The Queen Anne style wardrobe stands on its original cabriole feet and retains its original backboards. This is a
...single piece wardrobe. Due to its narrow width, it is ideal for compact rooms, as it consumes very little space.
Dimensions:?External height = 150.3cm / 59?” / 4ft 11?” ?External width (feet) = 87cm / 34¼” / 2ft 10¼”
External depth (including handles) = 52cm / 20½” / 1t 8½”
Condition Report:
Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The compactum retains its original interior, including telescopic hanging rail and internal storage compartments. The doors also retain their original door latch and handles and working lock (with key). The two drawers are free running and close flush to the frame. The walnut wardrobe retains its original backboards and it stands on its original cabriole feet. The tallboy wardrobe does not dismantle. It is solid in joint and ready to use.
