Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bottle coasters emerged in the mid-18th century to allow wine bottles to slide smoothly across polished wooden dining tables without causing scratches or damp ring marks. Originally termed bottle stands, these pieces became essential components of formal English table settings throughout the Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian eras.

Edwardian bottle coasters typically feature sterling silver or silver-plated metal borders paired with turned hardwood bases, such as mahogany or fruitwood. The wooden inserts were often lined with green baize on the underside to protect tabletop surfaces.

Authentic pieces generally display period hallmarks or maker marks stamped into the silver rim or outer wall. Design elements such as floral repousse work, gadrooned borders, and the specific density and grain of the turned wooden insert help confirm age and origin.

These items can be displayed on a sideboard, drinks trolley, or kitchen counter as functional bar accessories. Beyond holding wine or champagne bottles, they can be repurposed to hold pillar candles, trinkets, or small decanters.

Silver borders should be gently polished with a dedicated silver cloth or mild foam, avoiding liquid dips that could seep into and damage the wooden base. The wood should be kept dry and conditioned occasionally with natural beeswax polish.
