FAQs

The George IV period, spanning the early 19th century, is characterised by a blend of classical Regency restraint and the emergence of heavier, opulent Victorian influences, often featuring fine timbers like mahogany and architectural detailing.

Master cabinetmakers typically utilised solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods, incorporating hand-cut dovetail joints, brass hardware, and intricate wire grilles or glass panes for doors.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction techniques such as hand-planed secondary woods, patination consistent with age, traditional joinery without modern fasteners, and makers stamps where applicable.

A classic wooden cabinet provides a grounding architectural element in a modern room, serving as a sophisticated display unit for curated book collections or objets dart against neutral walls.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth.
