Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Swedish Empire furniture, also known as Karl Johan style after King Karl XIV Johan, originated in the early-to-mid 19th century. It adapts French Empire neoclassicism into a lighter Scandinavian aesthetic, utilising native woods like birch rather than dark mahogany.

These stools were primarily constructed using native blonde timbers such as satin birch or flame birch. The seats were traditionally upholstered using hand-stitched needlepoint, wool tapestry, or natural linen textiles.

Authentic pieces feature signature Neoclassical profiles, including outwards-curving sabre legs, raised end rails, and rich grain patterns of local birch. Construction techniques usually reveal hand-cut joinery and traditional webbing beneath the seat frame.

A Scandinavian Empire stool works well as an accent piece at the foot of a bed, alongside a dressing table, or under a console table. Its light timber finish and tailored classical shape complement both minimal contemporary spaces and traditional historic schemes.

Keep timber surfaces away from direct sunlight and radiator heat to prevent veneer splitting and finish fading. Clean textile seats gently using a low-suction vacuum with a brush attachment, avoiding liquid solvents on antique needlepoint fabric.
