French Chestnut Deed Box With Gothic Carving, Circa 1600

Table-top deed box in dense chestnut, joined with large dovetails at the corners, with the front deeply carved with a row of Gothic arches in the Medieval style
 
The carving appears to be original, with the construction of the box suggesting a late 16th century or early 17th century date
