During the 19th century, German glassmakers revived Renaissance and Baroque glassmaking traditions under the Historismus movement. Artisans reproduced historic vessels such as Humpen and Stangenglaser, ornamenting them with polychrome enamel detailing, coat of arms imagery, and traditional dot work.

These vessels were hand-blown using clear or lightly tinted glass before being decorated with enamel paste made from powdered glass and metallic oxide pigments. The glassware was then re-fired in a kiln to fuse the enamel permanently to the glass surface.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-blown characteristics, including subtle air bubbles, slight asymmetrical form, and a snapped or smoothed pontil mark on the underside of the base. Hand-applied enamel decoration displays delicate texture and slight variation under close inspection.
