Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver christening cups originated as symbolic gifts presented by godparents during infant baptisms, signifying wealth and good fortune. During the Victorian era, the expansion of manufacturing techniques like engine turning enabled intricate surface decoration on domestic silver vessels.

Victorian christening cups were primarily made from sterling silver, comprising 92.5% pure silver alloyed with copper for structural rigidity. Decoration was applied using techniques such as hand engraving, chasing, and precision machine-guided engine turning.

Authentic pieces carry British assay office hallmarks stamped into the metal, including the crown mark for Sheffield, the lion passant for sterling silver, a date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture, and a makers mark.

Small antique silver vessels serve as functional accents on vanity trays, mantlepieces, or open bookshelves. They are frequently repurposed in contemporary settings as vanity containers, desk pencil holders, or small floral vases.

Clean silver using a specialized non-abrasive silver polish and a soft microfibre cloth to remove oxidisation without scratching the surface. Store in a dry environment wrapped in acid-free tissue or anti-tarnish cloth to prevent tarnishing.
