FAQs

Originating in the early 19th century during the British Regency era, the chiffonier evolved from sideboards to provide a versatile, smaller cabinet featuring a tiered superstructure for displaying books and decorative objects.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers, incorporating traditional mortise and tenon joinery, brass or gilt mounts, and hand-turned feet.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, secondary woods in the drawer linings, hand-cut dovetail joints, patination of the brass hardware, and construction techniques consistent with early 19th-century cabinetmaking.

Pairing the rich wood tones with contemporary neutral walls, minimalist art, and modern lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition that highlights the historical craftsmanship.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth, and occasionally applying a traditional beeswax polish to nourish the finish.
