Georgian glass decanters emerged in the 18th century as dining customs shifted, moving wine storage from ceramic flagons and leather jacks directly to the dining table in clear or coloured glass vessels.

These vessels were typically hand-blown using lead glass or soda-lime glass, often featuring wheel-engraved motifs, polished pontil marks on the base, and fitted ground glass stoppers.

Authentication relies on examining the weight, tint, and imperfections of the glass, the presence of a rough or polished pontil mark on the underside, and the hand-finished nature of the stopper and neck rings.

Displaying period glass on a sideboard or within a glass-fronted cabinet introduces colour, texture, and historical contrast to modern living spaces.

Antique glass should be washed by hand using warm water and mild detergent, avoiding harsh abrasives and sudden temperature changes to protect the fragile material.
