Size: 4ft 7in x 2ft 7in (140 x 78cm).
Antique Tekke or Saryk Turkmen chuval face with nine large ''Salor'' turreted guls.
Circa 1880.
Chuval are storage bags used by the Turkmen nomads for the storage of personal items inside the yurt and also for the transport of goods on the backs of camels or horses. They were usually woven in pairs.
A very good chuval face that is very well drawn with nine ''Salor'' guls and an interesting ''boxed star'' secondary guls. The extensive use of cochineal dye gives the superb ground colour. The elem is of the small flowering shrub design. All of the white elements in the design are woven in cotton.
Excellent condition with even wear and good pile, there are a few spots of heavier wear along with an old repair to the top corners, the sides have been rebound at some time in the chuvals history.
